Stoneware ceramic bowl which was fired using the exciting process of Raku – this word is freely interpreted as ‘enjoyment’ in Japanese. The process is a direct low firing method which involves putting the bowl into and taking it out of a red-hot gas fired kiln. The black lines are created by the carbon entering the porous clay visa the cracks intentionally created via thermal shock.
